My learning conference

We each had to make a slideshow, showing what we've been doing in our classes. We had to make a slide each about

  • One of our latest blog posts
  • Learning story from hurumanu
  • Latest math work/the strategy we are using
  • Our reading plus(/lexia) results
  • Our spelling words/tasks
  • About C.I.P and what we've been doing in that C.I.P
  • Anything else we would like to add.
For me, the only thing I added extra was a slide explaining what we've been doing in technology. Here is my slideshow, I hope you enjoy it.

Tane Mahuta C.I.P

In Tane Mahuta C.I.P we are gardening. In the first week we checked out what we had to work with. The second week we started planning. The third week we started our plan. The fourth week (this week) we have been continuing from week three.  I have been helping prune the trees. Basically, we are chopping branches off that are knee/waist height and have been trimming some trees to the ground. We have been pruning an apple tree today and then we trimmed a small bush to the ground as far as we could. Last week we pruned a big tree and removed the sticks/branches we cut off. I think this is a really good C.I.P and for me it is really fun.

There is no I in team

In There is no I in team P.E we did Maths.

We have to calculate the total cost of four football fields in a season. It is very complicated, but I like it. We are working on it on a google sheet, There are five sections of which we have to complete. My group has completed three. I think that sometimes, it's simple, and sometimes it is complex. We also have to work out the total pay of staff (hourly pay and holiday pay). I hope that my group can get it all done correctly.

Fitness test results

In P.E, we did a fitness test once, but we did the beep test two times. Here are my results.

For the beep test, in the first week I made it to 2.3, on the 22nd of July I made it to 4.3. I think I improved because I was used to it the second time we did it. I am proud of myself for improving and the next time I will strive to be better.

We had to do a standing measure where we stand straight up without being off the ground, and then we try and reach as far as we can while standing. I got 1.93, and I am still proud of myself, even thought I could probably reach better.

Then we had to do a Jumping measure where we then had to jump and try and get as far up as you can.  I got 2.22, which is pretty good, I definitely could've gotten a better score.

We had to do the sit and reach test, which you have to sit without bending your knees and then try and push the bar as far as you can. I got 2 cm. It was hard for me because I'm really inflexible. I could improve a lot.

Then we had to do the abdominal conditioning test. The test was doing sit ups while putting your hands by your ears to make it harder. I did 13 sit ups. I think I could do better, because it wasn't that challenging.

Then we did the grip strength test, which involved squeezing your fist (only one, not two.) and trying to get the two ends of the hand grip to touch the other. Personally, it was really hard for me because my hands are weak. That's why I got a score of 0. There is definitely room for improvement there.

Depression

In Digital tech we have to try and find a way to solve an issue. It has to be either an environmental issue, social issue, or an ethical issue. I chose a social issue, Depression. The reason I chose this issue is because it affects peoples emotions, their life, and their social life. Also, people are becoming depressed at an earlier age more and more and we need to stop it.

If you know anyone who is depressed or might be affected by others, here are some ways we could solve this issue.
1. Support them and tell them to call 1737. (calling 1737 is really good because it's free and available for anyone day and night.)
2. Try as hard as you can to make/keep them happy, healthy and heard.
3. Give them things to do like, play some fun games, give them a book to read, but overall just keep them engaged in anything they would like to do to pass the time.

In order to do this, you will need to be alert (if you aren't already), you will need to be careful, you need to make sure not to forget to engage yourself in some activities and you absolutely need to help them and yourself, to keep thinking happy thoughts.

Digital Tech

In Digital Tech, we have each been focusing on a social, environmental or an ethical issue. I chose social, and the issue I chose was depression. We had to do some reasearch about our issue and then ask three questions, and try to find the answers to them. My three questions were:
1. How can we help people with depression?
2. What can we do to help people with depression?
3. Why might they want help?
We had to find three websites and a quote on their front page about our issue. Here is the reasearch I did:

We also looked at four ways to tell people about our issue:
1. Gamefroot.
2. Code.org.
3. Scratch.
4. Spheros.
I chose Code.org because it is easier to create and app, and because I am going to make a pick-a-path about someone who has depression, and how they cope with it. Also in the app you will get to choose between a few options to try and be happy.

Tapu Ae

Tapu Ae is a Maori game of which you use a ki (ball) to knock three tennis balls of three cones. There are three sections of the court, the cones are on each end of the court, with a circle around each. The guardian is the only person allowed in the circle, and two attackers have to try and knock the three balls off. Two defenders are also on each side of the court(Two of one colour being on one side and two of the other colour on the other side, The same is said with the attackers). There are two people of each team in the mid-field who have to pass to whatever side is attacking. Tapu Ae is normally played 7 aside, but you can play with more people if you want. The rules for Tapu Ae are:
1. Stay in your part of the court.
2. Only the guardian on their side can go in their circle.
3. Don't step out of the lines (Including the lines on the outside of the court).
4. If you are playing with rippas, you can run with the ball, if you aren't then you can only take two steps with the ball.
We talked about the Ki, Tupu, Pawero and Te Ao. I was Mid Field, Defense and Attack. I enjoyed playing defense the most but I also enjoyed playing Attack. Most of my team was not cooperative but most of my team was. My team could improve making decisions and coming together as a team.
