Maori

This term we have had Maori. This week we have been talking about what a hangi is and why walking over the hangi is bad. It's bad because our bodies are tapu (closest word in English is sacred) and the hangi is noa (Normal) so they say that if we step over the hangi then it makes the food inedible.

We had to make a google drawing of how to make a hangi. Here's the one I worked on with Jodecy:

We also talked about how some people on the Maori new year make a reverse hangi. You find the highest hill you can in your area and place rocks on the top to replace the hole. when the sun rises you have to get rid of the rocks on top and let the smoke rise.
